With all the news regarding saturated and unsaturated fats, good fats, bad fats, vegetable oils, seed oils, etc., etc. seemingly changing monthly if not weekly in some cases, it’s no wonder why many people are perplexed as to what is probably the best way(s) to add good, healthy fat into their diet. Well, if you ask my humble opinion, coconut oil is one of, if not the, best ways to do so. Here are several reasons:
Coconut oil is a fantastic replacement for vegetable oils when you cook and bake. Unlike vegetable oils and margarine made from these oils, (canola, safflower, sunflower, corn, soybean, etc.) coconut oil does not need a chemical process to be extracted, and nor is it GMO or treated with pesticides. Oh, and did I mention that coconut oil is not hydrogenated? Vegetable oils can not verily make such a claim. Trans fats anyone? None for moi, thank you. I’ll stick with the coconut oil, and you should too for much healthier eating. Once you use coconut oil to bake, stir fry, etc., and experience the yummy, subtle flavor it gives to your vegetables and other foods, you’ll wish you’d done it decades ago.
As a moisturizer, it’s tough to beat coconut oil. Use it as an after shower body lotion and leave in hair conditioner. Dry skin will be a thing of the past with regular application, and it smells nice with no worries about any chemicals seeping into your pours. Calm your frizzy hair with a run through of coconut oil. Leave it in, cover it for fifteen minutes or so, and you’ve just given your hair some of the best conditioning it’s ever had along with natural sun protection for your hair, scalp, and skin. Let’s not forget what an excellent lip balm coconut oil is. If you’re dry, then coconut oil has got you covered.
Most people are looking for ways to lose weight and increase their metabolism. Well, discarding the vegetable oils in favor of coconut oil is a huge step in the right direction. In addition, you can ingest a teaspoon or so to support healthy thyroid function and rev up that metabolic rate of yours. We all know that without a properly running thyroid gland, amongst others, our weight loss aspirations are likely going to be pipe dreams. Make those dreams a reality and get you daily coconut oil supplement on! Put some in your coffee, in a smoothie, or as is. It’s your choice.
Along with being great for your skin as a moisturizer, coconut oil can also be used effectively in other ways. For example, it can be utilized as a cheekbone highlighter, makeup remover, facial scrub, (combined with Himalayan Crystal salt) a body scrub, (mixed with sugar) and massage oil. Also, there’s a clamoring regarding the use of coconut oil as a tanning substitute, to help fade age spots, and even as a lubricant during intimacy. Are you becoming a believer now?
Gum disease and overall gum health has become much more of an issue in recent years. The major culprits being consumption of highly processed foods, sugary items, and not brushing enough allowing for the build up of streptococcus mutans bacteria in the mouth. It just so happens that by swooshing a teaspoon or so of coconut oil once or twice daily in your mouth assists in reducing the number of streptococcus bacteria which are known to cause cavities. Make your dental visits much more pleasant. Add coconut oil pulling to your daily regimen.
So, if your looking to cook and eat healthier, have better looking and feeling moist skin, improve your thyroid function and ignite your metabolism, and upgrade your dental and overall health, then go swoosh, drink, cook with, and massage on some coconut oil. Don’t forget to have some applied to your back.
